Shrove Tuesday, the day before Ash Wednesday, marks the close of the season after Epiphany and the eve of Lent. In the Christian tradition, it has long been a day of preparation — a time to reflect, to confess, and to ready our hearts for the Lenten journey toward Easter.
Historically, families would use up rich ingredients like eggs, milk, and sugar before the simpler, more reflective season of Lent began — which is why pancakes became the traditional food for the day!
In the United Methodist Church, Shrove Tuesday is both meaningful and joyful — a time for fellowship, food, and community before we enter the more solemn season of Lent. We invite everyone to join us for our Pancake Supper as we gather around the table, share a meal, and prepare our hearts for Ash Wednesday and the journey to the cross.
